LOGO is an easy to use paint masking system that can be quickly and easily applied using a variety of methods. The method that is right for the application of your logo will depend on the logos complexity, the logos color scheme, and your skill level. The professionals at Praters Design will work with you to determine which application method is best for your logo application. More detailed application instructions will be sent with your order.
Single Color LOGO
The "Hinge" method is a very precise way to apply a logo to a gymnasium floor. Using the "Hinge" method allows a logo to be applied in small sections without any significant stretching of the mask.
The Hinge Method
Start by positioning the stencil on the floor where the logo is to be applied. Always measure from the logo itself, not from the paint mask. After the positioning of the logo has been found, create a hinge across the center of the logo using tape. Pull one side of the stencil back over the other side using the hinge as a breaking point. Pull the wax paper backing off of the adhesive back to the hinge and cut he wax paper backing off using a razor knife of a pair of scissors.
Carefully flip the section of the mask back over using the hinge and squeegee the mask to the floor. Now remove the hinge and flip the other section of the stencil over until you reach the cut in the wax paper backing. Remove the wax paper backing, flip the mask back over, and squeegee the mask to the floor.
Remove the face paper from the stencil and any excess paint mask not necessary to the painting of the logo. Paint the logo using the paint and painting method of your choice. Remove the mask from the floor when paint is dry.
The freeform method of logo application is a quick and easy way to apply logos to a gymnasium floor. It should be noted that great care should be taken when using this method to ensure that logos are not applied crooked. Longer logos will tend to bow in the middle during application. More knife work will be required when using this method on multi-paneled logos.
Freeform Method
Start by positioning the logo onto the floor exactly where it will be applied. Mark the corners of the logo with blue tape. With the logo's placement marked on the floor, flip the mask over and remove the wax paper backing.
Flip the logo back over, keeping the mask tight as you do so that the material does not adhere to itself. Using the blue tape markers to position the logo, place the mask onto the floor. Starting from the center of the logo, use a squeegee to adhere the mask to the floor. Remove the face paper.
Use a tape machine to roll the mask to ensure a secure bond with the floor. Paint the product using a painting method and paint of your choice. After the paint has dried, pull the mask from the floor to reveal the painted logo.
It is not always practical to use multiple paint masks when painting multiple colors. This may be because of a logos size, the simplicity of the logo, or simply a cost issue. For these situations, an application tape overlay is the best application solution. This application starts by applying and painting the outline of the logo onto the floor then masking the painted outline with application tape. Areas of the logo receiving other colors are then cut out of the tape and painted.
Application Tape Overlay Method
Start by positioning the stencil where it will be adhered to on a sealed floor. On larger logos it is helpful to tape the panels together so that the entire stencil can be moved easily when finding position. Once placement has been found, and panel position marked on the floor with tape, remove the wax paper backing from each panel and apply each panel to the floor. Move from one side to the other or from the center out applying one panel at a time. Squeegee each panel securely to the floor and remove the face paper from each panel as each is applied. Cut out all overlapping and straighten up all misaligned panels using a razor knife. It is best to roll the cut edges of the mask well using a tape machine (re-squeegee the edges if no tape machine is available) to ensure the mask has a good bond with the floor. This will greatly reduce paint bleeding. Paint the logo using whatever paint and painting technique that you are comfortable with.
Once the logo's outline has been painted, the paint is completely dry, and the paint mask has been completely removed from the floor, use a screen to knock down the sharp edges of the paint, clean the entire area, and cover the logo with application tape. Secure the tape to the floor using a squeegee. Use a razor knife to cut out the areas of the log that are to be painted. Roll the cut edges of the tape using a tape machine (re-squeegee the edges if no tape machine is available) to eliminate paint bleeding. Paint the logo using whatever paint and painting method that you are comfortable with. When the paint is dry remove all of the tape. Touch up the paint as needed and prep the paint for finish application. Finish the floor.
Using multiple paint mask to apply a multiple color logo is best used on smaller, detailed logos. This application starts by applying and painting the lighter, warmer colors of a logo and adding darker, cooler colors with each addition paint mask overlay.
Multiple Paint Mask Overlap Overlay Method
Start by finding the exact position that Template A will be positioned on the floor. With placement found, and marked on the floor with tape, start adhering the panels to the floor one at a time. Secure each panel to the floor using a squeegee and pull the face paper from each panel as you go. Rolling the edges of the paint mask with a tape machine before painting will greatly decrease the possibility of paint bleeding. Paint the stencil using whatever paint and painting method you are comfortable with. With the paint dry, remove all mask from the floor with the exception of the registration blocks. These blocks will be used to line up all other template overlays.
Adhere Template B to the floor using the Placement blocks left on the floor from template A to find the stencils placement. Secure the mask to the floor using a squeegee. Again, rolling the mask with a tape machine is important to reduce paint bleeding. Paint Template B. When the paint is dry, remove all mask from Template B from the floor making sure to leave the placement blocks from Template A on the floor. Adhere Template C to the floor using the placement blocks to find panel placement. Paint Template C. Touch up paint as needed and prep the paint for finish application. Finish the floor.
*Note: Using a screen to flatten out the rough edges of the paint from each template will eliminate the highs and lows in the finished product caused by the overlapping of paint.
Multiple Paint Mask Background Overlay Method
If the outline of a logo is lighter than the interior colors, or the outline is a color that covers easily like gray, The background overlay method is a good option. This method is the easiest way to produce a multiple color logo. The application starts by painting the silhouette of the image in the background color. The other colors are added using a paint mask overlay.
Start by positioning Template A where the stencil will be adhered to the floor. Apply each panel to the floor by removing the wax paper backing, placing the panel onto the floor, securing the panel to the floor using a squeegee, and then removing the face paper. Once the entire template is secured to the floor use a razor knife to cut out any overlap or straighten any misaligned panels.
Paint Template A using a paint and painting method that you are comfortable with. When the paint is dry, remove all of the mask from the floor with the exception of the placement blocks. (*Note: Placement blocks were not used in the above application, but are now standard when ordering this application method. See the Multiple Paint Mask Overlap Overlay Method above for visual information concerning placement blocks) Apply Template B directly over the silhouette created by Template A using the placement blocks to find positioning. Roll the edges of the mask using a tape machine to help eliminate paint bleeding. Paint Template B.
